'HI' Original Glass, Steel and Gold Artwork
‘HI’ 2022
107cm x 91cm (when hung together)
Materials: glass, powder coated steel, 12 carat white gold and enamel paints
‘HI’ is a playful take on the classic casual greeting. The letters H and I, are physically built with blocks of my body, made up of thirteen separate glass panels, each with a mirror gilded print of my right hand set into a welded steel frame. I’m waving hello to you and you, the viewer, and you are saying hello to yourself, when your image is reflected back at you in the hands.
This piece also references some of the earliest pieces of human art ever recorded: hand prints in cave paintings. I want to draw attention to how deep a casual ‘Hi’ runs in our psyche, its not a word any one us will remember learning, its a word we understand as babies before we even begin to think about speaking them.
Set in a welded steel frame that has been powder coated in a lilac purple this pair of glass pieces has a sculptural feel for a two dimensional wall hanging piece. Hang them together or apart, on opposite sides of a hallway perhaps, the choice is yours.
Postage is not included in the price. If you’re London based I can deliver and hang it for you. If you need it to be shipped there will be an extra cost for a professional art courier.
